“ A reputation as the masters of big and dark, intense styles..

Amager Bryghus
Kastrup, Denmark
Brew Master: Jacob Storm

Amager Bryghus has been voted in The Top 100 brewers in the world for eight consecutive years by the world's leading beer rating website, ratebeer.com

Amager Bryghus was founded in 2007 by two friends, Jacob Storm and Morten Valentin Lundsbak – both native to the island of Amager which adjoins Copenhagen. The brewery – situated right next to Copenhagen Airport – exports their unfiltered and unpasteurized beers to 30 countries all over the world. Both friends were dedicated home brewers, having won several medals and completed a Brewer's Diploma at the Scandinavian School of Brewing.

Amager Bryghus has a portfolio of around 20 stable and seasonal beers, but on top of that releases 30-40 new beers every year – simply because they cannot stop trying out new ingredients, new styles, flavours and aromas. Very much a bunch of hopheads, Amager has also gained a reputation as the masters of big, dark and intense styles – Imperial Stouts in particular. But basically they embrace pretty much any beer style they come across and love to do barrel-aging experiments as well.

Taking beer seriously is essential to the Amager Boys, as they call themselves, but they have a tongue in cheek approach to the whole beer business which they often find way too pretentious.

The Amager antidote to that is beer names and label texts that focus on humour and satire – often bordering the grotesque. They have been quoted for saying: “No matter what you do, don’t believe more than max 20% of what we write on our beers”.

Amager Bryghus is also known for their many collaboration beers – especially with some of the best American breweries. These collaborations are always released at a public party at the brewery around July 4th. A party in true Amager redneck-style with rockabilly, hotdogs and hotrods galore.
